Race Day Check-In & Race Instructions

Please Read Carefully

1.    Check-in is 6:00 a.m.-7:15 a.m. Check in at the appropriate registration table, depending on entry as a team or individual. Kid's Race start is at 7:30am.  Sprint/Super Sprint Race starts at 8:00am. Brief Race Instructions will be given before each race start in front of the Clubhouse.

2.    Race Numbers will be printed on a contestant’s right shoulder. Sunscreen should not be applied on these areas as it causes them to wear off.

3.    T-shirts size is on a first come, first serve basis.

4.    Staging: All swimmers must be at the start area 15 minutes before their start wave. The swim start will be on the main beach area. Bicycles must be parked on bicycle racks individuals in the Lower Beach parking lot, relays in the Upper Beach parking lot.

5.   If wet swim wear needs to be changed, bathrooms on the Main Beach may be used. Swim caps will be provided and must be worn.

6.   Swim Course: Swim leg will start on the Main Beach area and finish at the Main Beach. The Kid's course will be rectangular and stay within the swim bouys. The Sprint/Super Sprint course will be an out and back course. At the start, swimmers should be positioned according to swimming ability – fast swimmers to the front, slower swimmers to the back. Wave starts will be used: Kid's one wave, Sprint/Super Sprint, Men first, Women and Relays second, then Children 12&Under. The Kid swimmers will go off at 7:30, and the Sprint/Super Sprint waves will start at 8:00

7.   The transition area for the Sprint/Super Spring Triathlons is located at the Main Beach where the swim start/finish is located. Both T1 (swim to bike) and T2 (bike to run) are located in the lower and upper Main Beach parking lots. The exception is for the Kid's Triathlon. The T1 transition will take place in the same transition area as for the Long and Medium Course events, but T2 (bike to run) is located on the other side of the Lake in Park #5, Green Valley Park across from Green Valley Road. Relays will need to pre-position their runner over in Park #5. If you don't know the directions to Park #5, ask any Race Day Official. They should be able to give you directions to Park #5.

8. Any parent/adult who wants to swim with their child in one of our Tri Courses can do so by letting the person in charge of registration know of your desire to do so either on Race Day at the Registration Table in the Upper Marina Parking lot, or more preferably by letting the person in charge of registration on active.com know of your request prior to race day, again most preferably right after you have registered. The active.com registration official is usually identified in the directions for registering on active.com. Otherwise, contact our Race Director at <mailto:ls-tri@lop.org> . We will arrange for you to swim with your child, and it will be necessary for you to switch to a swim cap that corresponds to the wave cap color for your child's swim wave. You may also continue to bike and run with your child, if you so choose to do so.

9. Cyclists must wear helmets and helmets must be buckled before mounting the bicycle. Cyclists may not mount bike between two gates located at the entrance and exit of the transition area. Non-racers are not allowed in the transition area (no assistance).

10. Bike Course (5.1miles): Bike must be walked toward tennis courts #1 and #2, up into the Upper Beach parking lot, where it will be mounted, then turned right onto Clubhouse Drive. Course proceeds up to Lakeshore North and turns right towards the opposite end of the lake. The course will be cycled clockwise around the lake. Arrows (on pavement and barricade signs) will direct riders around the course. The bicycle course stays straight on Lakeshore North until Hickory where a left turn is made. At the top of Hickory the course turns right onto Torrey Pines. Course proceeds in a clockwise direction all the way around Torrey Pines to the Guard House where it turns right and climbs Lakeshore North back to Clubhouse Drive. One lap is required for the Super Sprint Triathlon, and three laps (15.2 mi.) are required for the Sprint Triathlon.

11. The Kid's Triathlon has a bike leg of 2.5 miles that follows the regular bike course until the course reaches Lakeshore South. At the intersection of Torrey Pines and Lakeshore South the cyclist turns right and proceeds to Park 5 where the bike will be dropped off (stored) and the run begins.

12. The bike/run transition begins as soon as the rider turns off of Lakeshore North and enters Clubhouse Drive. At this point all cyclists will be asked to SLOW DOWN. A slow speed is required all the way through the bike/run transition.

13. All cyclists must be un-mounted in the fenced transition area (Lower & Upper Beach parking lots). Anyone mounted between the two gates in the transition area will be disqualified and prohibited from continuing.

14. Relay cyclists must roll their bikes into the Upper Beach parking lot; relay runner must have one hand on bike rack when tag is made by cyclist. Helmets must stay on and buckled until you have dismounted in the transition area.

15. Run Course (3.8 miles): Run leg starts from the Lower Beach parking lot (relay runners from upper Beach Parking lot) towards tennis courts #1 and #2, up into the Upper Beach parking lot, then turning right on Clubhouse Drive. Runners will turn right onto Lakeshore North. The course will be run clockwise around the lake. Arrows/signs along the course will lead you back to the finish line. The course runs to Torrey Pines and turns right. Run on Torrey Pines to Lakeshore South and turn right to the Dam road. Cross the Dam road to Lakeshore North and turn right. Runners will exit Lakeshore North near tennis courts #3 and #4 and run down the pathway into the lower Marina parking lot ending the run leg/triathlon at the finish line located there. Race bibs must be on the front of the runner.

16. Run Course (1.4 miles): The run course for the Kid's Triathlon begins at Park 5 and proceeds along the normal run route used by the Sprint/Super Sprint Triathlons. The runner crosses over the dam and proceeds up to Lakeshore North, turns right and proceeds down to just past the $3&4 tennis courts where they make one last right turn down into the marina parking lot and the finish line.

17. There will be traffic monitors at major intersections and critical course turns. However, do not rely on this! Exercise due caution when turning corners or going through intersections. When asked to SLOW DOWN, cyclists must do so immediately. Bicycle must be ridden on the right side of the road, near the shoulder. The run will have the runner running on the right side of the road, nearest the shoulder. Cyclists watch for runners, deer, AND for loose gravel.
