Waterfowl Management Committee:
Has the committee been able to reduce the geese population? Yes they have!! Will the geese return? Yes they will!!

Nesting is done and molting season is happening now. You may have noticed a lot of feathers on the ground. The goslings and their parents are flightless and the other adults are molting which will make them flightless. Until they are all flying again by the end of June the committee will be continuing to discourage the geese from grazing on community lawns. By the end of June we will be seeing the migrating geese begin to drop in and we’ll begin more aggressive hazing.

We are looking for community volunteers who would be willing and able to help patrol the parks and beaches. This activity involves inspecting various areas and using a scare-eye balloon to chase the geese off the lawns. Call for more details if you have an interest and the time. It’s kinda fun to get familiar with the geese habits, routines and geese talk.

We appreciated the call from Yvonne Mikita. She noticed about 30 geese grazing on the 11th fairway near the tee and called. We got them to fly away before they made too much of a mess or damaged the green.

Please remember that feeding waterfowl is prohibited in Lake of the Pines. Feeding will only attract more waterfowl.

Thanks: The WMC is operating solely on donations from the Pinesmen, Men’s 18, Women 9 and the Firebelles. Also thanks to Tom Demorest and Bill Bucholz for volunteering to share the hazing duties.
