7/12/11 1. Standings are posted on this website.
2. Frank and I may or may not be there every time (we actually do have a life…somewhere out there!). The balls will be delivered by someone each week. There is a canvas bag that I have placed 6 measuring tapes, tees, markers, clipboards, pens, timer and a clock…along with scoresheets. Whoever delivers the balls will also deliver the canvas bag. If we are not going to be there, someone will be delegated to pick up the balls and the canvas bag with all the scorecards in it. This seems to be the simplest way, but always open for suggestions!
3. Two items of confusion this past Sunday.
a. Jim was confused because someone else was using regulation balls. The lounge has one set of regulation and smaller set. We have our own and there will always be someone delivering them to our league evenings.
b. We had confusion on exchanging ends of the court. We need to clarify what is stated in the regs. This is your league and although I might be known as “Bocce Bitch”, you need to decide on the rules. So I want feedback on this from all of you….
i. The regs do not give a consequence of not exchanging ends of the court. They do say that all disputes should be settled by the captains or the game will not be given to either side.
We have had a number of teams not exchange ends because players did not know the rules. When Frank was in the middle running things, he reminded people. But now we are getting enough experience that captains should remind their players. In this case, the players did not do what the captain had said to do. I am not sure in what period of the game the other captain noticed that they had not exchanged. But in the name of “Good Sportsmanship”, the error should have been pointed out and corrected as early as possible. The end of the game is not in “good sportsmanship”. PLEASE GIVE ME FEEDBACK ON WHAT YOU THINK THE CONSEQUENCE SHOULD BE FROM NOW ON AND HOW IT ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 7/9/11 Captains please read and keep a copy. Please tell your team members that the schedule and standings are posted on the LOP.org website.
Lessons Learned from our first week:
1. Changes in rules:
a. Open toe shoes: We have changed from ‘Not Allowed’ to “Preferred for safety reasons”
b. Wednesday play begins at 5:00PM
c. There will be 10 minutes between each Match.
d. Teams can have as many as 12 people on their team. We realized with people traveling and the possibility of getting 3 games in the captains can give more people a chance to play.
2. Captains or substitute captains should do the following:
a. Captains should arrive early for their Match.
i. Meet with your opposing captain and flip for color and end of court.
ii. Fill out your score sheet.
iii. Arrange for someone from the other team or another team to be your scorekeeper.
iv. Captains will keep score with the tees and ck with their score keeper.
v. Captains will also choose a referee to do the measuring for their team…a person that is not playing.
vi. Each referee will have a measuring tape. No one else will be involved in the measuring and all team members should stay off the courts.
vii. Captains should remind their team to stay off the court when not throwing.
b. There will be a clipboard for each
3. Reminders:
a. After each game, not frame, team members should change ends of the court.
b. You need to move quickly to get 3 games in. Remember that whichever team is ahead at the end of ‘time’ is awarded the game. If the game is tied or was not started the points are split.
4. At the end of your game, captains sign your scorecard and return to the ‘Bocce Bag’ (Canvas bag with measuring tapes, tees, and clipboards next to the information board.
